THE inspirational life story of former local politician Roy Hirst has been documented by his close friend Richard Dunn in a new biography.
Does He Take Sugar? tells the story of Roy's political career as a chief whip for Wakefield Council's Labour group, his fundraising during the miners' strike in the 1980s and his active personal life despite losing both legs following a road accident.
Richard, former head teacher at Hemsworth High School, decided to tell Roy's fascinating tale after finishing his first book about his grandson's battle with the genetic disease Hurler's syndrome.
