A CONVICTED burglar has sparked outrage by demanding compensation after his cellmate committed suicide.

And legal experts say Robert Butchart, from Gosport, could could land a windfall of up to [pounds sterling]55,000 after telling the Home Office the ordeal had caused him 'psychological trauma'.

Butchart was being held on remand for burglary at Winchester Prison when he discovered Ian Holms' hanged body on September 29, 2000.

Now Court of Appeal judges are set to decide whether the Gosport council leader Mark Hook, said such cases should never get to court. He added: 'It's absolutely scandalous. I don't think they should allow this to happen.
