AN ESTIMATED 2,000 people marked the 86th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins at Beal na mBlath in Cork yesterday.
The ceremony featured former GAA president Sean Kelly as keynote speaker.
He called on the GAA to jointly honour Michael Collins and Eamon de Valera and help banish the "bitterness and poison'' of the Civil War for all time. Mr Kelly said naming trophies, clubs, grounds or stands after both men would be a powerful gesture of unity and maturity.
He also told how the memory of Collins helped inspire him as he steered Rule 42 through the GAA in 2005 to pave the way for soccer and rugby to be played at ...
