Community champions are set to fight back against supermarket giants to secure the future for local shopkeepers.
The Garstang District Partnership (GDP), a community funding initiative, is to launch a loyalty card scheme to urge residents to buy local goods. The historic market town is teeming with independent community shops.
But local retailers are facing increasing competition from supermarkets and chain stores in Preston, Blackpool and Lancaster. A [pounds sterling]6m Booths store is also set to open in the town in the next two years.
