Football fans have been saying it for years.
But now scientists have confirmed what match-going fans have always suspected - supporters who attend matches are more loyal than those who watch at home.
That is the finding of research into the multi-million pound world of sports broadcasting at Lancaster University.
Dr Tunde Buraimo looked at around 4,000 matches over 10 seasons as part of his PhD at Lancaster University Management School.
He has developed the first model to predict the size of the television audience for a match.
