Doctors of the future will train in a new [pounds sterling]5.9m education centre at Royal Preston Hospital after plans were approved by Preston Council planners.
Work on the four-storey development will begin next week and is expected to be completed by November.
The centre will enhance the Fulwood site's reputation as a training ground for new medics, and is expected to help attract more trainee doctors to the area.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust currently has around 100 medical students, but the new centre is expected to take the number to 240 by the end of the year.
