A tax on chewing gum has been demanded by a Lancashire MP to cover the cost of cleaning it off the streets.
Chorley's Lindsay Hoyle is urging ministers to slap a levy on each pack of chewing gum.
The Labour MP has signed a parliamentary motion, which has won the cross party backing of 26 MPs. He said: "If you look at the streets, there is chewing gum everywhere. It gets everywhere - train station, bus stops, it's simply not good enough.
"The chewing gum companies, who make a lot of profit, should pay to clean up this mess. Why should it be council taxpayers who have to pay for this to be cleaned up?"
