It's easy to gang-tackle Woody Allen. After all, he's 72 years old, which makes it far more difficult for him to outrun his pursuers, the critics, who wait in the reeds ready to pounce every time he releases a new movie.
"He's not funny anymore," they whine. "Why can't he just make another `Annie Hall'?"
I've issued similar complaints. Woody Allen cranks out a movie every year, and, yes, in the last decade some of them have been atrocious. Beginning with "Small Time Crooks" in 2000, Allen embarked on a wicked losing streak that also included "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion," and "Anything Else," ...
