Aug. 25--YAKIMA -- They often had to sleep on the team bus. They usually had to shower at the local YMCA or police station. But the Yakima-based Washington Browns played baseball despite such hardship, and they did so for the same basic reason most Negro League teams did during the 1930s -- because they loved the game.
