The American Red Cross is contributing $100,000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in support of their efforts to help meet the humanitarian needs of tens of thousands of people affected by the ongoing conflict in Georgia (see also American Red Cross).
"With many people injured and many more fleeing their homes as a result of the conflict, medical and relief supplies are urgently needed," says Alex Mahoney, manager of disaster response for Asia, Middle East, and Europe, for the American Red Cross. "Our initial support will go to help extend the relief work of the ICRC on the ground, while we evaluate additional response options."
