NEW YORK - No drug chain in the country is currently making a bigger commitment to the greater New York market than Rite Aid Corp.
"The metropolitan area is clearly one of the markets we will continue to target heavily for growth," says a spokesman for the Camp Hill, Pa.-based retailer.
In just the past 18 months the 2,700-unit chain has opened 50 outlets in the New York market, making it the undisputed leader here, and chairman and chief executive officer Martin Grass has vowed to launch another 100 stores in the city's five boroughs by the end of the year, including the expected conversion of 14 Revco D.S. units in the borough of Staten Island.
