The number of victims of identity theft keeps climbing. Statistics show that every three seconds someone becomes a victim of identity theft. The numbers are staggering, 10 million victims with estimated losses totaling $50 billion. Just last week federal authorities arrested individuals in an identity theft ring that stole 40 million credit card and ATM numbers used at major retailers including TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Office Max, DSW, Barnes and Noble, Sports Authority and BJ's Wholesale Club. According to the United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey, "So far as we know, this is the single largest and most complex identity theft case ever charged in this country."
