Eugene man held in case of sexual corruption

A Eugene man was arraigned Friday in Lane County Circuit Court on charges that he tried to solicit children for sex while online.

James Elbert Murphy, 46, was arrested Thursday by Oregon State Police investigators after a five-month investigation.

Murphy faces felony charges of second-degree online sexual corruption of a child. The state law went into effect this year to target adults who use online communication including the Internet to solicit a child to engage in sexual conduct.

Murphy was being held late Friday in the Lane County Jail on $50,000 bail.
