Jun. 12--Virginia's new economic development authority will have an old hand at the helm.

Wayne L. Sterling, director of the state's Economic Development Department for two years, was named yesterday as executive director of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.

Sterling, 58, was picked for the job by the partnership's 15-member board of directors, most of whom are private businesspeople chosen by Gov. George Allen to help direct Virginia's economic development strategy.
