Walter Percy Chrysler wanted to build cars. He built them at Buick, and he enabled Willys, Chalmers and Maxwell to continue to build them. He put his name on an automobile, and he formed his own car-building company.
All by the time he was 50.
His Chrysler brand is still going strong after 73 years. His Plymouth is poised for a revival at age 69 after staving off the efforts of 1990s corporate executives to kill it. His DeSoto wasn't as fortunate; it ran out of sales and died in 1960 at age 32.
