SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1996--The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today granted Pacific Bell permission to offer Caller ID service to its California customers effective June 15. Approval was given upon Pacific Bell's completion of a $33 million Caller ID consumer education campaign.

Caller ID enables people to see the number of the person calling before they answer the call. In order to see the caller's number, Pacific Bell customers need to subscribe to Pacific Bell Caller ID service and purchase either a telephone with a built-in display device or an electronic display device designed to connect to an existing phone.
