A landmark tree in a Lancashire village is to be felled after it became diseased.
The roots of the ancient beech tree next to the war memorial on Woodplumpton Road, Woodplumpton, are being eaten away by a fungal infection and it is now in danger of toppling over.
The infection was spotted by a council officer carrying out routine inspections.
Experts have arranged for the tree, believed to be around 150 years old, to be felled tomorrow.
A 150ft section of the main Woodplumpton Road will be closed from 8am until 4pm while the work takes place.
Diversions will be signposted.
