A teenage passenger in a car driven at speed into a bend suffered catastrophic injuries when the vehicle crashed, a court was told.
Catherine Storey was left with multiple skull fractures, a broken spine and surgeons had to operate to sew her ear back on after the horror crash in Lancaster.
Preston Crown Court was told that Miss Storey, 17 at the time of the accident last September, spent two weeks in the neurological unit at the Royal Preston Hospital and another four weeks in hospital.
She had recovered sufficiently to be in court and see the driver of the car who admitted to a "moment of madness", sentenced.
