A MOTHER who passed drugs to her inmate son during a prison visit has been jailed.
Despite hearing Anne Cassidy's partner had been killed and she had suffered a nervous breakdown, a judge said an immediate prison sentence was the only outcome.
Judge Stuart Baker warned if those who tried to smuggle drugs into prison were not severely punished when caught, discipline in jail could be compromised.
Prosecutor at Preston Crown Court, Richard Bennett, said Cassidy was visiting her son Martin at Garth Prison, Leyland, last December.
At the end of the visit, the couple hugged and staff believed something may have been passed between the two.
