Six police officers were taken to hospital after plastic cylinders of hydrochloric acid were set on fire at wasteland in Leyland.
The police officers were first at the scene of the blaze near Clydesdale Place in Moss Side.
They were taken to Chorley Hospital after complaining of sore throats, nausea and headaches.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were called out to the incident at 10.30pm on Friday.
