A historic house in Lancashire is set to be bulldozed after falling prey to attacks from vandals and arsonists.
Planners have ruled that the Grade II listed Greaves Hall Mansion in Banks, near Southport, has reached such a state of decline it can no longer be secured.
The decision ends years of speculation on the future of the former psychiatric hospital, vacant since 1994. Previous plans to demolish it were blocked by West Lancashire Council.
Heritage campaigner Arthur Wright, from Rufford, a former nurse who worked at Greaves Hall Mansion, says too little was done to safeguard the building.
