Nearly 63 years ago one of the worst air disasters of the Second World War occurred. Sixty one people were killed including 38 children when a B-24 Liberator bomber crashed and destroyed a snack bar and part of the Freckleton Holy Trinity School.
Ray Brooke was in the RAF stationed at Kirkham when the horrific accident happened.
He was badly burned in the disaster which claimed the lives of two of his comrades.
Ray subsequently underwent nearly 50 plastic surgery operations over a period of five years.
The 83-year-old became a member of The Guinea Pig Club - a club for people suffering burns and undergoing reconstructive surgery.
