New York recaptures old glory and revenue as film mecca
Picture Perfect, a romantic comedy that 20th Century Fox will begin shooting next month, is the story of an unattached woman trying to survive the competitive frenzy of the Manhattan social scene. But when Executive Producer Bill Teitler sat down to make up his production budget, he expected the bulk of the shooting to take place in Toronto.
Not that Mr. Teitler wanted to go to Canada; he thought a film about New York should be filmed in New York. But cost-conscious studios have frequently used the Canadian city as a substitute, and Fox executives insisted that New York would be prohibitively expensive.
