Billy Davies is on the brink of quitting Deepdale for Charlton Athletic.
Preston have given the Premiership club permission to approach him for their vacant manager's job.
The North End boss is expected to travel to London after the weekend for talks with Charlton.
He told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I'm in no rush to leave Preston - but, being an ambitious manager, I think I should listen to what they have to say.
"I am completely open-minded about the whole thing."
Charlton made their official approach early on Friday in a phone call to Deepdale chairman Derek Shaw.
