The king of Deepdale's plastic pitch was undoubtedly Brian Mooney.
For three-and-a-half seasons the Irishman shone on North End's carpet, becoming a huge favourite of the fans who had stayed loyal in turbulent times.
His arrival didn't make too many headlines, the late John McGrath signing him from Liverpool on a month's loan in October 1987 as Preston struggled to adapt to life in the old Division Three after the previous season's promotion glory.
