To improve upon their excellent safety record and operate more efficiently, railroads and shippers are turning to real-time remote monitoring systems. Among the more recent developments are systems that train a close eye on hazardous cargo, monitor the status of wayside lubricators, and keep tabs on locomotive auxiliary power units.
