Despite the industry's best efforts, consumers still rank restaurants at the bottom of their eco-friendly lists. "Greening" measures in the restaurant industry have become mainstream since being introduced decades ago, yet consumers do not see the progress and that could end up costing businesses money, according to a new study by the NPD GROUP, reported Nation's Restaurant News (May 26). In a ranking of almost a dozen different industries, both quick and full-service restaurants ranked well below grocery stores, supermarkets and food and beverage companies in terms of ecologically friendly practices.
