VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.--Jun. 19--Harris Teeter makes good today on a plan to bring its brand of upscale grocery shopping to Hampton Roads, opening a 66,000-square-foot store in Princess Anne Plaza. The Matthews, N.C.-based chain says it is banking on months of company research that suggests Hampton Roads residents want an alternative -- and don't mind paying a little more for it.
"There's a large, unfulfilled need for a grocery store like this as far as pricing, quality and variety that we think we can fill," said John Hutchens, vice president of Harris Teeter's Northern division operations.
