I N THE last two elections I voted for the ANC. Why? As a non-white (now classified as black . . . but not black enough) and being a member of a minority group, I regarded myself, as did thousands of other Indians, as finally attaining freedom in our newly-created democracy.
The ANC came across as the liberation movement whose rightful place was to be the ruling party. It set free all South Africans who were not white and a fair number of whites who refused to side with the oppressor.
In short, the winds of freedom began to blow and freed our beloved country.
Yet, the heartfelt sorrow of Alan Paton, a strong proponent of liberalism in South Africa, does not seem ...
