Dear Dr. Cory:
If you get a spider bite, what do you do?
Maria Plano, Texas
Dear Maria:
If you get bitten by a spider, it is always good to check with a doctor or local poison control center. Spiders use poison, or venom, to kill the bugs they catch for food. The venom may also cause a reaction in people. Some spider bites look okay at first, but then get worse later on. Anyone bitten by a spider should:
* Stay calm.
* Clean the area with soap and water.
