House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) dodged another bullet recently when the House Ethics Committee issued a mild rebuke for permitting a telecommunications investor to work in his office as a volunteer. The panel told Gingrich House rules had been broken but the panel had decided to take no action.
Representitive George Miller (D-CA), who filed the complaint last November, said, "Today, the ethics committee confirmed that yet again Speaker Gingrich violated the rules of the House he governs...Hopefully, this ruling will end the practice of having special-interest lobbyists masquerading as Congressional staff, against the public interest."
