The mycotoxin aflatoxin is known to be a potent carcinogen. DNA samples of breast tumor tissue had higher levels of aflatoxin (Harrison et al. 1993) than normal breast tissue from the same patient. This implicates aflatoxin as a cause for breast cancer. Normal breast cells become cancerous when exposed to aflatoxin.
