FREETOWN, Sierra Leone, (Aug. 28, 2008) IPS/GIN - Sierra Leonean rights activists have informed the government that they will campaign against any attempt to retain the death penalty in the new constitution.

In addition, they are insisting that the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission be fully adopted.

The currently-sitting constitutional review commission, meanwhile, has advised the government that murder and robbery with violence should continue to be capital crimes in the revised constitution.
