On April 1,2008, the British Journal of Dermatology published the results of the largest clinical trial ever performed in chronic hand eczema (CHE). This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III study, sponsored by Basilea Pharmaceutica International Ltd., showed that treatment with oral alitretinoin was effective in patients suffering from severe CHE unresponsive to potent topical steroids, as determined by the endpoint of clear and almost clear hand.
