Queens Councilman James Gennaro spoke out last week against drilling for natural gas near the watershed that provides drinking water for New York City.

Gas companies are eager to tap the Marcellus Shale, a rock formation more than a mile below the ground under parts of Appalachia, including regions of upstate New York where the city receives its water.
