BRENDAN Foster has pledged to make the Great Women's Run an annual event in Sunderland and wants to see it become one of the biggest of its kind in the country.
The inaugural race went ahead yesterday in conditions which were far from ideal - steady rain and chilly winds dampening down the atmosphere.
And instead of the hoped-for picture postcard views of Sunderland seafront, viewers of the run on Channel 5 saw grey skies, leaden seas and steady rain as a field of bedraggled runners made their way round the 10km course.
