THREE men hatched a plot to damage a car belonging to a man they believed carried out a child sex attack.
But Paul Patton, William Duncan and David Wren "chickened out" and were arrested driving away from the man's house, Durham Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Andrew Findaly told the court police spotted a car being driven slowly down a street in South Hetton at about 1.40am.
"The three occupants seemed to be looking around and their actions aroused the suspicions of the officers.
He added: They stopped the car and searched both the vehicle and those inside it.
