IRISH troops serving in Chad are anticipating a surge in activity in the region as the rainy season ends over the coming weeks and rebel season in the area begins.

But the 400-strong contingent is well prepared for any eventuality, according to a Defence Forces spokesman.

Captain Fergal Purcell of the Irish Defence Forces said it was a reasonable assumption that activity will increase there in the coming weeks, but strong analysis has been carried out on what could happen, and the Irish troops are ready for the expected and the unexpected.
