NORTON - Tim Clark had a chance to shoot golf's magic number, 59, yesterday in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC of Boston.
Word spread rapidly as the South African, who started on the 10th hole and shot 30 on the back, used eagles on Nos. 2 and 4 to get to 10-under for the day. The 32-year-old soaked in the electricity from the growing gallery when he birdied the seventh to move to 11-under.
He needed one birdie in the last two holes to shoot 59 on the par-71 course, which has yielded an average score of 68.8 through two rounds of the second of four FedEx Cup playoff events.
