SCARBOROUGH Council could be scrapped under radical proposals to shake up the way local government operates.
North Yorkshire County Council is set to submit proposals for a new county-wide unitary authority, which would mean all Scarborough's council services will be run from Northallerton - more than 50 miles away.
The move comes after a published Government white paper "inviting" all councils in England to submit
proposals which set out new ways of working in the future.
However, the white paper says that "no change is not an option" and whatever happens the current two-tier
system of local government must be changed.
