Chilean President Michelle Bachelet launched on Monday the 57bn-peso (US$111mn) Mapocho river cleanup program, to be carried out by local water utility Aguas Andinas, the government reported in a release.
Public works minister Sergio Bitar and environment minister Ana Lya Uruarte were also present at the ceremony to launch the initiative, which is expected to conclude in 18 months and employ an estimated 2,000 people, the release said.
The project seeks to eliminate a total of 21 wastewater discharge points along the river by building a 28.5km pipeline ...
