Matt Montoya, 18, of Mesa, Ariz., tried coffee for his morning jolt when he started working about a year ago. But he didn't like drinking something hot in the morning and now relies on energy drinks.

He's not alone. The energy-drink business is getting a jolt itself as more such beverages arrive on shelves. Even water is "energized" with caffeine.It's enough to make Montoya's mother, a nurse, cringe.

"She hates caffeine," Montoya said.

Caffeine is just one of the reasons parents might worry about energy drinks. Some drinks include such obscure ingredients as milkweed extract and horny goat weed extract.
