A medieval gold cross that caught the heart of Queen Victoria will return to Clare where it was first found 141 years ago.
The intricately-designed Clare Reliquary was discovered in 1866 during excavations as the new railway line and station were being developed at Clare Castle. It is believed to date back to 1450.
Historians suspect the cross may have belonged to the descendants of King Edward III, who lived at the castle - prompting Queen Victoria to express a desire to possess the cross.
