Top military commanders late last week gave their permission to turn off the Pentagon's current worldwide command and control system and "plug in" its replacement, according to defense officials.
The go-ahead is a significant achievement for developers of the Global Command and Control System (GCCS), considering the number of ongoing operations across the globe dependent on the national command structure. It demonstrates top-level confidence that GCCS is ready to replace the current system, in use for more than 25 years.
