VIRGINIA BEACH | The City Council officially approved bringing back red light cameras Tuesday night.
The c ouncil also voted unanimously to establish a $50 penalty for drivers caught on camera running a red light .
Virginia Beach police will install 20 cameras at 10 of the city's most dangerous intersections.
The city had cameras three years ago through a pilot program, but it ended when the General Assembly let the program lapse. The legislature allowed red light cameras again last year.
The red-light camera program is expected to cost the city $1.25 million initially. But police expect it to generate $1.6 million in revenues and make ...
