A GRIEVING family today paid tribute to a young man who died of a rare form of leukaemia just days after it was diagnosed.
Lee Williams, of Whiteleas, South Shields, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer - acute myeloid leukaemia, which is most common in people over 60.
He showed few symptoms of being ill, and his devastated family have chosen today - which would have been his 26th birthday - to raise awareness of the condition, which they have dubbed the 'silent killer'.
Lee loved life, and lived it to the full - riding his new moped, dabbling in extreme sports, and designing tattoos.
