FLINTSHIRE'S Garry Houston kept alive his hopes of retaining his Tour card with a 66 on the first day of the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
The Welshman, along with compatriot Kyron Sullivan, lay three points behind the early leader, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, one ahead of Argentina's Julio Zapata.
Houston, who earned his biggest-ever Tour cheque of over pounds 53,000 when he was fourth in the event three years ago, lies 132nd with only the leading 115 guaranteed their cards in 2009.
Houston almost pulled off an amazing "underground" hole-in-one.
