HOMEOWNERS struggling to meet mortgage repayments will be bailed out by taxpayers' cash under a ?1billion property rescue package to be unveiled today.
Public money will be used to help those at risk of having their homes repossessed.
Gordon Brown will outline the controversial step of using state funding to keep families in their own houses as he attempts to revive his flagging authority and inject fresh life into the crippled housing market.
But missing from the raft of measures will be plans floated earlier in the summer to give homebuyers a 'stamp-duty holiday' - an idea blamed for deepening the housing crisis.
