SOUTH Shields-born film-maker Sir Ridley Scott's famous Hovis advert featuring a boy pushing a bike has been voted the nation's favourite commercial.
It starred a 13-year-old who quit acting soon afterwards and now works as a firefighter.
Filmed in 1973, the commercial used Dvorak's New World Symphony as the musical backdrop.
London firefighter Carl Barlow received a one-off payment of around [pounds sterling]60 for his role as the original Hovis boy.
But he became disillusioned with acting soon after making the commercial, and became a firefighter 27 years ago.
