"Surreal Things: Surrealism and Design," organized by London's Victoria and Albert Museum and now at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao [through Sept. 7], presents some 300 highly diverse objects. Curator Ghislaine Wood has turned from her triumph as co-curator of the V&Ns 2003 "Art Deco 1910-1939" to examine other material from the same era and later. (1) The new show allows viewers to assess Surrealism's effects--both passing and lasting--on stage design, architecture, photography, graphics, decorative arts, exhibition display and fashion.
